In a minga (a project jointly carried out by the members of a community) for the unison and reciprocity of humanity, mother earth and the universe, director Dorothea Wolf-Nuernberg was present on behalf of CHC at the start of the ceremonial run in the Colombian Massif, and is ready to welcome the group in Bogota.

This activity entails a message against the exploitation of ancestral territories and for the liberation of the spirit of the water. It was attended by Indigenous peoples of the Yanakunas, Embera Chami and Nasas tribes.

Minga por la unidad y la reciprocidad entre la Humanidad, la Madre Tierra y el Universo. La CHC se hizo presente a través de su directora, Dorothea Wolf-Nuernberg en el inicio de la carrera ceremonial en el macizo colombiano y está atenta a recibirles en Bogotá.

Esta actividad es además un mensaje contra la explotación de territorios ancestrales para la liberación del espíritu del agua. Contó con la asistencia de indígenas de los Pueblos Yanakunas, Emberá Chamí y Nasas.

CADA VEZ SON MAS

La casa de la CHC es de los estudiantes originarios

La CHC tiene ya 10 estudiantes en las universidades de Bogotá, Palmira y Medellín. Ha duplicado la cantidad de los estudiantes frente al año pasado y ve como positivo que hay una convivencia entre indígenas de diferentes etnias y una mayor presencia de mujeres.

Tiene ahora un estudiante Arhuaco, de la Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta; Camëntsas del Putumayo y Tikunas del Trapecio Amazónico, que estudian ciencias políticas, derecho, geografía, enfermería, educación física, lenguas modernas, ingeniería industrial, administración de empresas y economía en las universidades Nacional de Colombia, Distrital, Pedagógica, Politécnico Gran Colombiano, Externado y Javeriana.

Además, Dorothea, la directora de la CHC, le enseña alemán y gestiona una beca de especialización para un abogado Camëntsa que quiere realizar una especialización en Derecho Penal en Alemania. Sus intereses académicos la han llevado también a ser asesora de algunas tesis de pregrado y maestrías de estudiantes de la Universidad Javeriana y Distrital.

La CHC sigue contando con el apoyo de la Pontificia Universidad Javeriana y la Universidad La Salle a través de sus estudiantes de pasantía.

The great day, the day of forgiveness

Sibundoy, Putumayo, for the reconciliation

Gustavo de la Hoz was present at the 7th of March at the celebration of this day that is so important for the Camëntsa community. It is an annual event that promotes the unity of community members through rituals that express the reconciliation and gratefulness to mother earth and the water that grants them life.

This special date would be the start of a new documentary that depicts the recent mobilization of a community that fights to stop the planned construction of a highway between San Francisco and Mocoa in the Putumayo region. This highway would be build in indigenous territory and could entail a grave environmental disaster for the inhabitants of the region. CHC was witness of a situation that can affect both national and international interests.

DÍA GRANDE, DÍA DEL PERDON

Sibundoy, Putumayo, por la reconciliación

Gustavo de la Hoz estuvo presente el 7 de marzo en la celebración de este día tan importante para la comunidad Camëntsa, una fiesta anual que mantiene unidos a los miembros de la comunidad en torno a rituales que llevan a la reconciliación y al agradecimiento a la Madre Tierra y al agua por permitirles la vida.

En esta especial fecha él comienzo a un nuevo documental que se une a la reciente movilización de dicho pueblo originario con el Pueblo Inga para frenar la obra de la variante San Francisco-Mocoa en el Putumayo, la cual atravesaría su territorio, dejando a su paso grandes daños ecológicos. Esto constituye a la CHC en testigo de esta realidad que afecta intereses nacionales e internacionales.

The journey of Dorothea

For the culture of Yagé (Ayahuasca)

It is not a new chapter of ‘The Wizard of Oz’, but simply the experience of a German nurse that decided that it was her vocation to stay in Colombia and work for its indigenous population, in a way that few Colombian nationals have done. Her dedication is not limited to the Tikuna, the indigenous inhabitants of the Amazon Trapezium, but has extended itself to different cultures of tribes that live in the Andes region, after a initial first contact that was realized in Pasto, with the Cofan Dureno community in the Ecuadorian Amazon and the Colombian area of Bajo Putumajo. Now Dorothea has embarked on a new crusade, one to find funds to save the culture of Yagé or Ayahuasca with the help of Uniandinos. The objective of the project is to create a market for ecotourism in order to generate the funds to construct malokas ritual centers and to cultivate the plant in order to guarantee the subsistence of the source of this ancestral medicine.

Much has been said about Yagé, and through ignorance and unscrupulous commercial eagerness of some, it has often been presented as a drug. In reality, it is a sacred plant that can provide a spiritual experience by calling on the users’ inner power for meditation and facilitates a cleansing of the body and mind.

It is also important to make clear that Yagé should only be administered by experienced traditional healers (Taitas).

EL VIAJE DE DOROTHEA

Por la cultura del Yagé (Ayahuasca)

No es un nuevo capítulo del Mago de Oz, es sencillamente la experiencia de una enferma alemana que decidió que su vocación era quedarse en Colombia trabajando por los indígenas, como tal vez pocos nacionales lo habrían hecho. No bastándole su dedicación a los Tikuna, pueblo indígena del Trapecio Amazónico, retomó los diálogos que habían tenido inicio en el Encuentro de culturas andinas realizado en Pasto, con el pueblo Cofan y la comunidad Dureno en la Amazonía ecuatoriana y del bajo Putumayo.

Dorothea está ahora empeñada en una nueva cruzada, la de obtener recursos para rescatar la cultura del yagé o ayahuasca con el apoyo de Uniandinos. La finalidad del proyecto enmarcado en el ecoturismo es obtener recursos para construir las malokas del lugar y para cultivar el bejuco, garantizando que no se extinga la fuente de esta medicina ancestral.

Mucho se ha oído del yagé, se le ha relacionado, por desconocimiento y por el afán comercial de algunos inescrupulosos, con las drogas, cuando en realidad es una planta sagrada que se relaciona con una experiencia espiritual y convoca en torno a espacios de meditación para sanar la mente y el cuerpo.

Es importante tener claro que el yagé sólo debe ser suministrado por médicos tradicionales (Taitas).

The origin of the Tikuna people

From the amazon it traveled around the world

In the second semester of the last year, the UNESCO recognized “The origin of the Tikuna people’ as an ethnographic movie of great transcendence, and promised to show it to the indigenous communities of various Latin American countries with the help of the ‘Asociación Nómadas’. It was screened in the light of the campaign ‘Cameras of Diversity’, and was positively received by a great number of ethnic groups. After this initial campaign it was subsequently chosen to be shown to the indigenous communities in Canada.

In Europe the work was exhibited in The United Kingdom, Italy and The Netherlands, and recently the Colombian collective ‘Daupará’ expressed interest in distributing the movie in conjunction with other ethnographic movies that will be presented in october of this year. ‘The Origin’ could also be seen in Madrid, Spain, during the festival ‘De la Colombianidad’ on the 19th of july in the light of the memorial of Colombian independence.

The indigenous that worked on the production of the movie also presented it personally for the ‘Cinema Club’ and ‘Cinema Forum’ at the Nariño University in Pastos, Colombia. In addition, the movie was invited by the Fundación Arte Nativo de Riobamba for a screening at the Festival Nacional de Cine Kunturñawi, while director Gustavo de la Hoz was invited for a seat in the festival’s jury. After the screening workshops on audiovisual production were conducted with local indigenous communities, and a promise has been made to return with the help of the University Politécnico Gran Colombiano of Bogota, Colombia, which support was also vital in the production of the movie that is now a source of pride for the Tikuna people.

EL ORIGEN DEL PUEBLO TIKUNA

Desde el Amazonas inició su recorrido por el mundo

En el segundo semestre del año pasado, la UNESCO hizo un reconocimiento a “El Origen del Pueblo Tikuna” como película etnográfica de gran trascendencia y se comprometió a llevarla, con el apoyo de la Asociación Nómadas, a las comunidades originarias de varios países de América Latina dentro de la muestra “Cámaras de la Diversidad” con gran acogida por parte de las diferentes etnias. Después de eso la seleccionó también para llevarla a las comunidades nativas de Canadá.

De igual forma, se ha exhibido en Londres, Alemania, Italia, Holanda y, recientemente el colectivo colombiano Daupará http://daupara.org/ expresó su interés en distribuirla como parte de un conjunto de películas etnográficas que se presentarán el próximo mes de octubre. También se pudo ver en Madrid, España, el pasado 19 de julio en el evento de la Colombianidad con motivo de la conmemoración de la independencia.

Los mismos Indígenas se han dado a la tarea de promoverla y por iniciativa suya se presentó en un Cine Club y Cine Foro en la Universidad de Nariño en Pasto, Colombia.

Estuvo en Ecuador por invitación de la Fundación Arte Nativo de Riobamba como película invitada fuera de concurso, pues su realizador, Gustavo de la Hoz, era jurado del III Festival Nacional de Cine Kunturñawi. Complementariamente a la muestra se hicieron talleres de producción audiovisual en comunidades originarias cercanas a Riobamba y se hizo el compromiso de regresar con el apoyo del Politécnico Gran Colombiano de Bogotá, Colombia, entidad sin la cual no habría sido posible realizar la película que hoy es motivo de orgullo para el Pueblo Tikuna.

Audiovisual education for indigenous students

With the support of the Colombian Ministry of Culture

Corporación Horizontes Colombianos -CHC- has won the competition of the “2011 Program of National Cultural Harmonization” of the Colombian Ministry of Culture with a project that seeks to deepen the capacity of audiovisual production of the Tikuna tribe, which CHC helped to establish the television channel “IBURI - Our View”. Education takes place by means of workshops.

The IBURI channel has been operated since 2008 and is programmed with local productions staged in the Amazon environment. It covers different genres of television: News bulletins, talk shows, children’s programming and competitions. The channel also combines the Spanish language with the Tikuna language of the indigenous population of the region.

Due to the dedication of the 13 indigenous men and women running the channel, IBURI has had a significant impact on not only the region of Nazareth, where the initiative was launched, but on the whole Amazon trapezium. It has helped to dignify the situation of our indigenous populations, strengthened their culture and helped them to recover or conserve important ancestral language and practices.

Following the 2011 competition, several television programs were made with the specific aim of promoting the recovery of the identity of the indigenous population: The story of an abduction in the Amazon, a children's program, a contest and a news program. The programs are a recognition of the indigenous tribes and their work, and show the confidence and expertise with which they manage their affairs. At the same time the programs are aligned with the objectives of CHC, which wants to promote the image of a country that is truly diverse, multicultural and build on strong ancestral foundations.

The children's program reinforces ancestral culture by documenting the traditional games of the native children that often contain elements of the natural environment: stones, leaves, sticks, seeds etc. The program is unscripted, the dialogues develop without any preparation and show that the children learn to love and understand the surrounding nature with a great sense of freedom and happiness. It helps them to develop self-respect, and shows there is dignity in being indigenous, while it also fosters the sense of pride associated with their language and cultural experiences. The program that features a contest between groups of adolescents is based on the reality of the indigenous communities and centers around their knowledge of the rainforest, its medicinal plants, its animals etc.

These productions can be acquired through the Corporación Horizontes Colombianos for the academic and cultural interests of persons, entities and communication channels.

FORMACIÓN AUDIOVISUAL PARA LOS INDÍGENAS

Con el apoyo del Ministerio de Cultura de Colombia

La Corporación Horizontes Colombianos –CHC- ganó la convocatoria del “Programa de Concertación Cultural Nacional 2011” del Ministerio de Cultura de Colombia con un proyecto que buscaba profundizar en la formación de la producción audiovisual por medio de talleres para los Tikunas con quienes la CHC creó el canal de televisión “IBURI - Nuestra Mirada”.

El canal está operando desde 2008 y se ha enfocado en una programación propia del entorno amazónico, abordando los diferentes géneros de televisión como: Noticieros, programas de opinión, programación infantil, concursos, etc., combinando la lengua tikuna y el español. 13 indígenas (hombres y mujeres) están ya trabajando con dedicación en el canal y su impacto se ha visto, no sólo en el área de Nazareth, donde comenzó la experiencia, sino en todo el Trapecio Amazónico, permitiendo dignificar la condición de nuestros Pueblos de origen, afianzar su cultura, rescatar sus lenguas y mantener sus tradiciones ancestrales.

A raíz de esta convocatoria surgieron unos programas de televisión que apuntan al rescate de la identidad de los Pueblos: La crónica de un secuestro en el Amazonas, un programa infantil, un concurso y un noticiero. Estos programas son un reconocimiento a los indígenas, a su trabajo, y una muestra de confianza en que ellos saben lo que están haciendo, pero, al mismo tiempo, responden al interés de la Corporación Horizontes Colombianos -CHC- de mostrar cómo es el país de verdad, el diverso, el multicultural, el ancestral.

El programa infantil fortalece a las culturas ancestrales por medio del rescate de los juegos tradicionales de los niños nativos con los elementos de su entorno natural: piedras, hojas, palitos, semillas, etc. Se realiza sin libreto, los diálogos se desarrollan sin ninguna preparación y muestran que los niños son felices y que aprenden a amar y a conocer la naturaleza con su visión de la libertad. Enseña el valor del respeto y rescata la dignidad del ser indígena, el orgullo de su lengua y las vivencias de su cultura. El concurso se basa en la realidad de los indígenas, en el conocimiento de la selva, de sus plantas medicinales, de los animales, etc.

Estas producciones se pueden adquirir en la CHC para que sirvan a intereses académicos y culturales de personas, entidades y medios de comunicación.
